This will also sign you up for that author's newsletter, where you will receive updates on the author's writing and more goodies. If you don't want to receive messages from the author, simply scroll to the bottom of any email from them and click the "unsubscribe" link.

However—why would you want to do that? If you like the author's book, surely you want more of their writing, right? Having a personalized access to their latest news keeps you in the loop for their latest novel release.

I compare this to trying free samples at a grocery store. It’s a fantastic way to discover new authors and for authors to find new readers. WIN-WIN, guys.
